Are fathers necessary reddit Mom's and dad's both play an important and necessary role in their kids lives. Yes, I know there are situations where one of the parents doesn't really care about their kids. Both parents work hard and both are able and willing to take care of their children. TLDR: I know it’s useful and important to have a partner through the trials of parenthood, but why is there so much emphasis on having a father/mother figure in a child’s life? Is there a specific thing a father figure does that a mother figure cannot/vice versa? Posted by u/lunatic-leftist - 4 votes and 11 comments. They are equally important. Mothers and fathers are considered a necessity because we live in a very gendered society, mothers and fathers teach kids "how to be a man/woman" , how to conform to their expectations, gendered social skills, etc This is true. They fulfill different things a kid needs, but they are both important. It's equal, but neither motherhood or fatherhood are necessary to raise a kid. Take my upvote. And seeing that sometimes made me thankful I didn't have a father - knowing what I might have gotten. I have no father, but I have known boys whose fathers were abusers, and they guys still carry the emotional scars of those relationships. The point of contention here is many people on this thread are saying that fathers/mothers have value, but are also saying adequate support from adults is all which is necessary and that anyone can fulfill these roles. That's why we have single parents families, gay families etc. eglcfbjabrmoaphnpdwqkhcuvhzikdbaaxtbapenlyiebhens
